First heat accomplished!

Two years ago, INTECO was awarded with the construction of a mini steel mill by voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH. Its purpose: The development of innovative steel grades in a very short time as well as production for small size orders.

In October, the steel mill, with a heat size of 5t was successfully started up by a team of experts of voestalpine and INTECO. It is equipped with state-of-the-art plant and process control technology and allows the production of highest quality steel with as cast dimensions identical to the ones of the bloom caster in Donawitz. INTECO’s scope of delivery includes: an Induction Furnace, a Ladle Furnace, a Vacuum Treatment (DETEM) plant, all necessary Auxiliary Equipment e.g. Ladle Preheaters, Tundish Preheater etc., as well as a Segment Casting plant for bloom lengths of up to 12m.

The finished products serve as starting material for the processing in the voestalpine mills for tubes, wires and rails.
